Maya B. Klein, Ph.D.

I’m a clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst licensed in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and California, providing psychotherapy and psychoanalysis for adults, adolescents, and children. My background includes many years in private practice, where I’ve worked closely with individuals and families navigating life’s most personal and complex challenges. I work extensively with adults, and specialize in the treatment of children and adolescents,.

Most of the people I work with struggle with anxiety and depression in its many forms—sometimes subtle, sometimes overwhelming. Many come to me after trying short-term or manualized therapies that didn’t offer lasting change. They’re not just looking to manage symptoms; they want to understand the why behind their patterns and experiences—not just the what. As a certified psychoanalyst, I’m particularly well suited to explore those deeper questions and help patients uncover what lies beneath the surface.

I hold dual Ph.D. degrees in Clinical Psychology and Industrial-Organizational Psychology, and I’ve worked across clinical, educational, and medical settings. Earlier in my career, I served as Lead Clinician for an intensive outpatient eating disorder program and specialized in psychological testing for a range of diagnostic questions, including autism, ADHD, and personality disorders. My commitment to understanding the deeper layers of human development and emotional life led me to pursue post-doctoral training in both Child and Adult Psychoanalysis at the San Diego Psychoanalytic Center, where I became a certified psychoanalyst.

In addition to my clinical work, I provide consultations for parents who are seeking support and insight into their child’s development or emotional life. These sessions focus on helping parents understand and respond to their child’s needs in a thoughtful, developmentally-informed way. An extension of this work is Pathformers.com—a video-first platform I founded to bring expert guidance directly to parents. Pathformers offers accessible, research-backed resources for those looking to better understand and support their child’s mental health.

Throughout my career, I’ve also served as an executive coach at the Center for Creative Leadership, working with professionals from leading organizations. I train and supervise other mental health professionals and currently serve as faculty at the Oregon Psychoanalytic Center and as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Oregon Health & Science University.

My research has been published in journals such as the Journal of Prevention and Intervention in the Community and the Australian Journal of Community Psychology.

With a deep commitment to fostering growth at every stage of life, my work is rooted in the belief that meaningful change happens when we feel seen, understood, and supported. I welcome any questions you may have about my background or approach to care.
